ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Oregon native and avocational archaeologist D. Russel Micnhimer is a member of the Oregon Archaeological Society from whom he has received numerous Loring and Loring Grants to supplement rock research. He has also given several presentations about his research to that organization. He has had a lifelong interest in prehistory and history and has traveled extensively exploring ancient civilizations, notably in Mexico and South America. For the last two decades he has traveled throughout the Western United States exploring ruins, rock art and other evidence of pre-contact habitation.  The meaning and purpose of rock art, both pictographs and petroglyphs, is one of the many facets of rock art that add a layer of intrigue to his research.  Micnhimer is co-author with LeeAnn Johnston of Where to See Rock Art Washington Oregon Idaho and has written numerous rock art articles for Oregon Archaeological Society publications. His and Johnston's extensive photographic record of rock art visits are exhibited on his Internet site, http://www.oregonrockart.com and featured on the prestigious Bradshaw Foundation site http://www.bradshawfoundation.com/oregon/index.php.
